Those of you that remember Shank's original romp through a seedy underworld in search of vengeance will be glad to know that he's back and as pissed off as ever. Skip past the break to get the deets.
For those of you that missed Shank last year on XBOX Live and the Playstation Network, know that you did yourself a diservice. In Shank, our hero was beat down and left for dead as a an underground cartel took off with his girlfriend. If you think the premise sounds a lot like double dragon you'd be right... but that's also where the similarities end. Shank 2 like it's predecesor takes place in a vibrant yet sleazy comic styled world where pretty much every character from a Tarantino/Rodriguez film come to life. The music is equal parts over the top and fitting, but the real fun comes from the side-scroller combat. Shotguns? Check. Knives? Check. Chainsaws? Check. The game's brutal animations feel right at home in this unwholesome tale. You see, the militia from the first game has returned to Shank's home and are now capturing and hurting the people closest to Shank. Knowing our protagonist won't stand for this; que in part two.
Some of the changes in Shank 2 come in the form of new combos but more importantly is the ability to counter attack against the onslaught of baddies the cartel will throw at you. This feature should add another layer of diversity to the combat. Another great feature is the ability to have an ass-kicking partner along for the ride via local or online co-op through the main campaign; a feature previously only available as a side quest in the last game. Finally, add in a new "horde/firefight" mode where you and a friend contest with a never ending onslaught of enemies through wave after wave of combat and you have a game that not only would make Tarantino and Rodriguez proud; you'd probably find them playing as well. Look for Shank's triumphant, yet disturbing return first quarter 2012.
