Who ordered the Tall Bloody Mary, hold the Nazi's and Heavy on the Vampire Vixen?

According to Majesco and Wayforward studios that's exactly what some of us will be drinking down this summer when the Nazi killing vampire vixen known as Bloodrayne makes her Next-Gen debut on the Playstation network and XBOX Live Arcade with Bloodrayne Betrayal. Keep reading to see if this reboot (and the puns) are worth sinking your fangs into.

Emerging from a dark crypt is the now forgotten Bloodrayne. Most modern day gamers might not know that our heroin is a half vampire, half human, Nazi killing sex bomb. While the Bloodrayne games were always B-rate at best, I have to admit to always remaining a fan. And I'm not alone in my nostalgia; Bloodrayne has had a sizable cult following throughout the years. While never being the most graphically powerful, or the most compelling in the way of storyline, Bloodrayne has always delivered on the fun factor, and this next edition is in the Bloodrayne timeline is no Tale of the Body Thief; it looks to deliver in every aspect.

Ditching the environments of yesteryear the team over at Wayforward studios have opted for a more old school look and feel. No longer will you be stalking your Nazi prey in 3D, the next installment of the series has gone forward in the form of a 2 dimensional side scrolling platformer. Also, it seems to be focusing more on the supernatural elements instead of the third Reich. Part Castlevania, part Megaman, part 80's Ninja Gaiden this reboot doesn't need to glamour you to make you believe it looks promising.

3D is sooo 90's.

Consequently, since the environments have changed it only makes sense that the art style would shape shift as well. Morphing itself into a flashy anime style mixed with a western comic book, the game takes full advantage of HD. The game is visually stunning and as bloody as the Mexican brothel in From Dusk till Dawn; maybe bloodier even. Also getting an upgrade is the gameplay itself. While gunplay still plays an important part of the combat, you'd be wise to conserve your ammunition for tougher enemies. This game will be heavy on the traditional arm blades that Bloodrayne is known for and a new combo system, as well as player scoring will help to keep all those would be damphir's working hard to surpass each others scores.

Your arm blades are your primary offense.

To conclude, I hope that this title ends up coming to light (figuratively) early August so I have more time to spend with it. With the next chapter in the Bloodrayne mythos readying its emergence from some long overdue crypt, I have no doubt our favorite vampire bombshell will return to her devoted legion with great success.
